Benefits of a season's pass

With a winter storm watch declared for the west slopes of the Cascades and a forecast predicting warming westerly flow, I woke up @ 5am and checked the weather data and decided it was worth driving up to Stevens Pass this morning. Left early to allow for a possible chain-up and arrived in the parking lot at 8 am. It was still cold and snowing hard, so I threw the chains on since I had the time. Hopped on Hogsback, then Ty Mill and skied the back side - 8 inches of powder on the groomers made for some sweet turns. Hit Aquarius face three times and by then the westerly flow had arrived, the temperature had risen noticeably and the powder was transformed into mashed potatoes. Meanwhile, I'd hooked up with a fellow named Pat from Snohomish skiing solo. We wrapped up our morning dropping a chute off Skyline, skiing the trees below Hogsback and drinking a cup of coffee in the lodge. Glad I put the chains on my car - 4 inches had fallen since I'd arrived and I helped push a 4x4 out of the parking lot - but no problems for me. Good times!
